Specification and Construction

The cables listed in this website are PVC insulated power cables conforming BS 6004 and BS 6346 for operating voltage up to and including 3.3KV. They include single and Multicore cables, armoured and unarmored for installation in air or under ground. These cables are also in according with the standards of international electro technical commission IEC 502.

MADNI CABLES can also manufacture cables to meet the requirement of any other recognized standard, or to meet specific requirements of our clients.

CONDUCTORS

Conductors are made for high conductivity Copper or Aluminum to meet the requirements of BS: 6360 & BS EN 60228. Conductors of single core cables are circular, while multicore cables of nominal cross sectional area of 25 mm2 and above are shaped stranded conductors. However the conductors may be circular solid, circular stranded, Circular compacted or shaped stranded as indicated in construction tables.

INSULATION

Insulation consists of extruded complying with BS 6346: 1997 & BS: 7655: 2000. The grade of PVC compound use for insulation is chosen to give good flexibility, Resistance to ageing and ability to withstand deformation at high temperatures. It is normally recommended that PVC insulated or Sheathed cable are installed at temperature above 0 oC, but special grades of PVC are available that can be handled at lower temperatures and other which are suitable for operation at higher temperature. Such compounds are more expensive and would only be chosen specific purpose.

BEEDING

The bedding is normally of extruded PVC complying with BS 6346: 1997 & BS: 7655: 2000, but lapped PVC tape bedding can also be provided where desired.

ARMOUR

Wire armour shall consist single layer of galvanized steel wires meeting the requirements as specified in BS 6346: 1997, and coating shall comply with BS 443. Where single Core cables are aromured and are used on a.c circuits, the armour shall consist of non magnetic material, such as Aluminum.

LAYING UP

The cores of cables shall be laid up with right hand direction of lay. Where necessary , non hydroscopic fillers may be applied.

FILLERS

Non hygroscopic filler generally used in the construction of multicore cables to fill empty gapes between the cores and give the cables smooth round finish.

BINDING TAPE

In all shaped cables a non hygroscopic high strength binding tape is used on the core assembly. For special purpose applications where cable may at times be immersed in water, a water blocking tape can also be provided for protection of the cores.

OVER SHEATH

The over sheath shall be black PVC compound complying with the requirements for TM1 material Specified in BS 7655 Section 4.1.

CORE IDENTIFICATION

In all multicore cables, black core denotes the neutral while other colours denote phase conductors.

CABLES MARKING

The External surface of all cables conforming to the standard shall be legibly marked following elements. (a) Electric Cable ELECTRIC CABLE
(b) Voltage Designation 600/ 1000 V
(c) British Standard Number BS 6346.
(d) Manufacture Identification MADNI CABELS
(e) Numbers of Cores, Type and nominal area of conductor

MINIMUM INSTALLATION RADIUS.

None of the cables should bent during installation to a radius smaller than that given table.

Table Minimum Installation radius.

Construction Minimum internal radius of bend
Circular copper Conductors 6 D
Shaped Copper Conductors 8 D
D is the tabulated overall diameter of the cable.
